Counseling Mission, Vision and Beliefs Statement
Vision:
The vision of Barnwell’s comprehensive school counseling program is for all students to be resilient and excel in all academic, career, social, and personal endeavors to their highest potential. Through cultural responsiveness and collaboration with community stakeholders, students will positively contribute to their community through their commitment to constant development and awareness of personal identity, the celebration of diversity, and effective skills in problem-solving and team work.. By way of ethical and responsible decision-making, students will contribute to the experience of a safe and accepting environment that provides equitable access to post-secondary opportunities, including academic, career, and personal/social opportunities that meet the needs of the 21st century. With rigorous academic experience and equitable access and use of resources, all students will have the attitudes, beliefs, and skills to become lifelong learners and competent members and leaders of society. Our students will be kind, joyful, creative, innovative, curious agents of change who are academic- and career-ready to be leaders globally.
Mission:
The mission of Barnwell’s school counseling program is to provide students with equitable access to a rigorous and high-quality education. Through the implementation of a data-driven, evidence-based, developmentally-appropriate and culturally-responsive comprehensive school counseling program, students are empowered to reach their academic potential and are prepared to be responsible, kind citizens ready for post-secondary opportunities and leadership to meet the challenges in the 21st century. Through building positive and joyful relationships and the encouragement of creative collaboration with educators, students, families, and community stakeholders, the school counseling program advocates for all students and empowers them to achieve academic, career, and social/emotional success.
Beliefs:
Barnwell's school counseling program is rooted in beliefs that:

- M 2. Every student should have access to and opportunity for a high-quality education.
- M 3. Every student should graduate from high school prepared for post-secondary opportunities.
- M 4. Every student should have access to a school counseling program.
- M 5. Effective school counseling is a collaborative process involving school counselors, students, families, teachers, administrators and education stakeholders.
- M 6. School counselors are leaders in the school, district, state, and nation.
- M 7. Comprehensive school counseling programs promote and enhance student academic, career, and social/emotional outcomes.
